"Landesgartenschau" New Footbridge
Rottweil, Germany
Spanning 175 meters with a clear width of 3.50 meters, it features seating and balconies along its length, accommodating both pedestrians and cyclists with a gentle gradient. Constructed using a steel superstructure supported by steel columns on reinforced concrete foundations, the V-shaped supports enhance structural rigidity and minimize visual impact. Materials emphasize durability and efficiency, using CO2-reduced steel and wood for tactile elements, highlighting environmental responsibility.
The integrated lighting system uses energy-efficient, insect-friendly LEDs controlled by presence detectors and timers. The four-phase construction process minimizes disruption to railroad operations, requiring only a brief closure during the final phase. High-quality materials and a semi-integral design reduce maintenance costs, ensuring a service life of up to 110 years for concrete and 100 years for steel. Enhanced corrosion protection extends durability.
The "Landesgartenschau" New Footbridge project fulfills its functional role while becoming a landmark that enhances Rottweil's aesthetic and cultural landscape, embodying sustainability, social integration, and historical appreciation.
