Life impermanence – Future living

Why is that everything changes?

That is how life is.

Nothing, nothing at all, has any lasting character.

This existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds.

To watch the birth and death of beings is like looking at the movement of a dance.

A lifetime is like a flash of lightning in the sky,

rushing by like a torrent down a steep mountain.

What is born will die,

What has been gathered, will be dispersed,

What has been accumulated will be exhausted,

What has been built up will collapse,

And what has been high will be brought low.

The whole universe, scientists would tell us, is nothing but change and process,

that is the ground of all things.

Every subatomic interaction consists of the annihilation of the original particles and

the creation of new subatomic particles.

The subatomic world is a continual dance of transformation,

of mass changing into energy and energy changing mass.

Transient forms sparkle in and out of existence,

creating a never-ending, forever newly created reality.

The Future living remains impermanent.

Living structures – Wireless networks

Within this cityscape, the future buildings open, close, breathe and adapt according to their environment. The concept of adaptability becomes a way of living and growing. Sustainability - defined by biological systems to remain diverse and productive indefinitely – does not necessarily becomes a way forward.

The living structures are reconfigurable, active and reactive. They are grid-less and fluid, working with any of the situation and spanning accordingly. It is a contextual architecture. The envelope has been designed as a living skin, rather than a system of inert materials used only for protection and insulation. The skin behaves like a membrane which serves as a connection between the exterior and interior of the habitat. The surface would allow the entry of light, air and water into the housing. It would automatically position itself according to the sunlight and let in light; thus electricity for lighting would not be needed during the day. The air and wind would be channeled into the building and filtered to provide clean air and natural air-conditioning.

The active skin would be capable of rain water harvesting where water would be purified, filtered, used and recycled. The skin could even absorb moisture from the air. The waste produced would be converted into biogas energy that could be put to diverse uses in the habitat. Any of the dynamic movements induced by any external conditions would be transferred into a source of energy, renewed and creating an intelligent active body. The living structures create a fluid and wireless network configured with multiple and ever changing centres and supports.

They aim independence and create an interesting field of opportunities. They drift away for the fixed solution and the unique possibility...and keep us living and exploring.
