Theatre Park Bridge
Taiyuan, China
The Theatre Park Bridge in Taiyuan is the opening entrance of the Water Theatre - a large-scale permanent installation, gathering up to 3,500 visitors. It features a sequential movement that connects with and emerges from the landscape, forming a lotus pattern.
Upon arrival, visitors encounter an entrance curved bridge that announces the lotus geometry. The dam, connecting the theatre from the south, flows along the landscape and river, creating a focal point that brings the public together. Thousands of eyes unite to participate in performances and draw inspiration from the artwork.
The indirect path to the theatre allows visitors to discover the water feature step by step. Situated within the landscape, the theatre aims to leave a cultural heritage and landmark along the river for future generations.
Designed with a higher aim, the project achieves a global composition. Footbridges and landscape meridians connect the outer and inner theatre into a single network. This design creates a continuous flow and a unique centralized composition, like a ribbon weaving up and down along the elliptic profile, providing space for programs underneath and a slope for seating.
Visitors enter through intermediate low points between the leaves, serving as articulated points. The continuous ribbon anticipates and envisions the inner theatre along the river. Overall, the complex geometry aligns and centralizes the Water Theatre project.
